  Per la mia vacanza a Gubei Water Town, ho scelto il Wangjing Tower Hotel Beijing, situato nel punto più alto dell'area panoramica. Dopo un soggiorno di due notti, sono rimasto completamente conquistato dal comfort e dalla cura dei dettagli; un'esperienza di livello decisamente superiore rispetto agli hotel in cui avevo soggiornato a valle.
  Ho prenotato una camera con vista sulla Grande Muraglia. Al momento del check-in, una navetta dedicata dell'hotel mi attendeva all'ingresso dell'area panoramica – risparmiandomi la fatica di trascinare la valigia su ciottoli irregolari – e mi ha accompagnato lungo la tortuosa strada di montagna fino all'ingresso della struttura. Appena aperta la porta, gran parte della stanchezza del viaggio è svanita: un'ampia vetrata a tutta altezza incorniciava la sezione di Simatai della Grande Muraglia. L'arredamento in legno naturale e dalle tonalità calde, privo di elementi superflui, creava uno spazio luminoso e rilassante di 35 metri quadrati. Un accogliente angolo tè vicino alla finestra invitava a preparare una bevanda calda e a osservare in tranquillità come l'aspetto della Grande Muraglia mutasse al variare di luci e ombre lungo il crinale. La biancheria da letto ha superato ogni aspettativa: tra soffici cuscini in piuma e un materasso dal sostegno perfetto, non c'era traccia di quella scomoda rigidità che spesso si riscontra negli hotel delle zone turistiche. Di notte, la brezza di montagna sfiorava dolcemente la finestra – senza il disturbo del traffico cittadino – permettendomi di dormire profondamente in entrambe le occasioni.
  Ogni dettaglio della camera era studiato per favorire un'atmosfera di relax. L'illuminazione prevedeva strisce LED a luce calda e soffusa, evitando i fastidiosi riflessi freddi che avrebbero potuto rovinare l'ambiente. Il bagno presentava zone separate per l'area umida e quella asciutta, includendo una vasca a tutta altezza con vista; dopo una giornata trascorsa a esplorare la cittadina sull'acqua, immergersi nell'acqua calda ammirando il paesaggio montano e le luci scintillanti del borgo sottostante ha cancellato ogni traccia di stanchezza. Il mio soggiorno di due giorni è trascorso in modo impeccabile, senza alcun intoppo fastidioso. Addormentarsi con la vista della Grande Muraglia e del paesaggio montano proprio fuori dalla finestra regala una rara e rasserenante sensazione di tranquillità: il tocco perfetto per una breve fuga vicino a Pechino.
